St. Joseph’s Villa is proud to be the pioneer of recognizing and implementing a therapy program for the long-term care residents.
To this day, we continue to restore, maintain, and optimize: strength, function, movement, and overall well-being of our residents. Therapy works hand in hand with other disciplines.
We deal with a broad variety of physical problems, especially those associated with the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory system.
All residents are eligible for physiotherapy assessment and treatment. Prior to assigning an appropriate program for a resident a detailed assessment is completed by a Physiotherapist and will be reviewed every three months using different outcome measures, such as the Tinetti Balance and Gait Test; Timed Up and Go Test; and The 3 Minute Walk Test.
The Villa’s therapy program is in partnership with Centric Health
(http://www.activehealthservices.ca/index.aspx). On staff we have two Physiotherapists, one Occupational Therapist and six PTA (Physiotherapy Assistants) and OTA (Occupational Therapy Assistants).
